High Key & Low Key light

High Key lighting is a style of lighting for film, television, or photography that aims to reduce the lighting ratio present in the scene and eliminates harsh light to give them a soft light as opposed to many shadows. High Key light creates an upbeat mood. This type of lighting is most commonly used in film, television, and photo shoots. The set up we used for these photos were a bunch of studio lights pointed towards the models to create a lighter mood.


This is a picture of Hayden Beull who participated as one of the models for the class. However, during this project I was away in Cabo so I was not able to take pictures of the High key set up. The picture credits go to Keiran McKelvey-clark, but i edited the photo




Low Key is a style of lighting whose intended effect is to enhance the shadows in your scenes with harsh light, high contrast and be under exposed. It creates a dramatic and mysterious mood. low key lighting is used to convey a dramatic and dark scene of a movie or show. My low key light photos were taken with same set up as the high key ones, but dimmed down studio lights and different models.
